Is there really a Phil?
Yes. He’s the guy running around like he owns the place. You’ll find him in one of the restaurants. Look for the loud, bald guy taking care of customers and interacting with his employees.
What is Phil’s BBQ?
Phil’s BBQ is a fast-casual BBQ restaurant that also offers delivery, catering and event space. Oh, and BBQ Sauce!
Where are your locations?
We have two locations in San Diego County, one in Point Loma and one in San Marcos. Phil’s Event Center is located adjacent to the Point Loma restaurant.
Where is Phil from?
30 miles east of Cleveland, Ohio (Painesville/Grand River). He moved to San Diego in 1992 and opened Phil’s in 1998.
Are you going to open a Phil’s near me?
Expansion plans are underway. Stay tuned!
Do you take reservations?
Fortunately, we don’t. We’d love to accommodate everybody, but we wouldn’t want you to have to sit on someone’s lap. The line and tables move pretty quickly. Tables can only be held after you order and have your pager. If you have a large group, inquire about our Event Center.
Can I bring a large group to Phil’s BBQ?
We do our best to accommodate large groups at Phil’s BBQ, but groups over 30 are not recommended. Phil’s Event Center is perfect for large groups of up to 140 guests if you would like to avoid long lines and ensure adequate accommodation for your guests.
How does the ordering process work?

get your beverage (Yes, we have beer and wine)

Find your favorite
table (if available) We can help if you’re having problems

When your pager
buzzes, return to the counter and pick up your food

and make funny moaning noises

Don’t forget to use
one of our hand wash stations before you leave

Do you deliver or cater?
We’re glad you asked. Boy, do we ever! Offices, drug reps, numerous businesses and households entertain their guests with Phil’s casual, fun, and memorable food. We can do a basic delivery ($200.00 minimum before tax) or can cook on-site (minimum of 75 people) where we bring the smoke, the servers, and some great outdoor eats. More details under Catering FAQ.
Can I have the recipe for your sauce?
Hmmmm…… That’s a hard one..?
Do you sell your sauce?
Yes, Phil’s BBQ Sauce is available at both Phil’s BBQ Restaurants, on-line at www.philsbbq.net, and at select San Diego County Costco locations.
Are you going to add macaroni and cheese, corn bread, mashed potatoes, hot links, collared greens, brisket, desserts, etc…?
Phil can probably cook a piece of shoe leather and make it taste good. Unfortunately, there are too many possibilities to keep up with and believe it or not – We’re out of kitchen space!
How can you call yourself BBQ, I’m from Texas?
Since there are so many ways to spell it and so many ways to cook it, we like to think of BBQ as a social thing. A bunch of people enjoying themselves and eating a bunch of meat and potatoes.
What are your hours of operation?
Tues thru Fri. and Sundays – 11:00 to 10:00. Friday and Saturday 11:00 to 11:00. We are closed on Mondays.
What days are you closed?
Mondays. Easter, Thanksgiving, the Tuesdays following Memorial Day and Labor Day. We are closed from December 24 to January 1 for renovation and vacation. Dates are subject to change.

No, Phil’s BBQ is not a franchise. Currently, no franchising opportunities are available.
How can I join the Phil’s BBQ Team?
Phil’s BBQ has a very low turnover of employees, but occasionally seeks enthusiastic members to add to our BBQrew. Applications can be obtained at any Phil’s BBQ location between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00 Tuesday thru Friday.
